How to check your water pressure

  1. High water pressure is the #1 cause of water leaks in your home. It is imperative to know beforehand what your home’s water pressure is to avoid damage or an emergency. All homes should have a water pressure regulator to avoid these issues, if you do not have one already installed, Grant & Sons can help with this.

  2. Buy a water pressure gauge at your local hardware store (usually between $10-$15) (image)

  3. Attach it to a hose faucet/bib and turn the water on to max (all the way to the right).

  4.  Safe water pressure would be between 50-75 PSI

  5. Anything higher than 75 PSI is not optimal and can cause leaks or void warranties throughout the home. Anything lower than 50 might be a clue that you have blockages or restrictions in your piping - typical with older homes. We recommend calling us or another licensed plumber to evaluate if so.
